Support Ready: Building Confidence and Competence in Supported Decision Making

Volition Solutions is building Support Ready, an AI-powered platform that builds Supported Decision Making (SDM) capability in the aged care, disability, home and community, and mental health workforces. Workers progress through adaptive and culturally responsive learning content, and can access AI assistance before, during and after real support sessions to build confidence and competence over time.

The project responds to a fast-shifting legal landscape. SDM is set to become a mandated, enforceable requirement under the new Mental Health Act, is being strengthened within the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers' Rights, and will serve as a core feature of a proposed Adult Decision-Making Capacity Act. However, the workforce remains underprepared, with high turnover compounding the capability gap.

Support Ready makes innovative use of AI, pairing adaptive, personalised learning with a voice-enabled assistant that can simulate support sessions, transcribe and document real ones, and guide reflective practice afterwards. Assessment against real practice produces a standardised SDM Readiness Score, giving the sector a first-of-its-kind way to measure and evidence capability.
